Become a Precinct Committee Officer!

This comes from Rob Dolin, the Communications Vice-Chair of the King County Democrats. I've customized it slightly.

Applications to run on the September primary ballot for Precinct Committee Officer (PCO) are now available. These need to be completed and turned-in to the County Auditor no later than 4:30pm on Friday, July 28 with the filing fee of $1.

PCO's are the key grassroots leaders in the Democratic party. At a minimum, PCO's distribute Democratic campaign literature to their neighbors before the primary and general elections and also meet for the Legislative District and County re-organization meetings after the general elections in even-numbered years. To learn more about becoming a PCO and the role of PCO's, visit the King County Democrats.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: This sounds great, can I start now?
A: Yes; some precincts do not have PCO's so you could "adopt" a nearby precinct without a PCO. Contact your local Legislative District or County to get appointed.

Q: Is there training on being a PCO?
A: Yes! And there is also the version here on DFW.

Q: If I'm already a PCO, do I have to re-apply?
A: Yes, PCO's are elected every two years.

Q: If I'm not from King County, will this form still work?
A: Yes, it should. It was developed by the Secretary of State to be accepted by all county auditors.

Q: When is the Election of PCO's?
A: PCO's are elected on the Democratic primary ballot. For 2006, this will be September 19th.

Q: I'm not sure I can commit to this PCO thing, can I just volunteer for some specific tasks?
A: Yes, you may want to find a campaign or complete the King County Democrats' online volunteer form. Other county and LD party organizations may have their own forms. Check the Washington State Information pages here on DFW, or go to the Grassroots Democrats for more information on volunteering for the state party.

Q: I have a question not listed here. What should I do?
A: Please post it as a comment to this blog entry since other people may have the same question. You can also contact your local Democratic party organization. (see the local party links section on DFW or Washblog
